The biometrics appointment at a BLS centre is the physical culmination of your entire Italian visa application process. Preparation 48 Hours Before

The two days before your appointment are critical. This is your final window to identify and fix any issues with your documents. Start by printing your appointment confirmation letter — the one with the QR code. Print two copies: one for yourself and one as backup. Check that the QR code scans correctly on your phone by using any free QR reader app.

Review your complete document set against the BLS checklist. Every document must be in A4 size. Photocopies must be clear and complete — no cut-off margins, no faded text. Photographs must meet Schengen specifications. Arrange everything in the order specified on the BLS checklist: appointment letter first, then passport, then supporting documents in sequence.

Charge your phone fully. You may need it for digital copies of documents, payment confirmation screenshots, or emergency contact calls. Documents to Bring

Appointment and Identity Documents

Your printed appointment confirmation letter with QR code is mandatory. Your original passport — valid for at least three months beyond your return date with at least two blank pages. A photocopy of your passport's bio-data page. Your original CNIC (Computerised National Identity Card) plus a photocopy. If you have an old passport, bring the original and a photocopy of the bio-data page and any previous Schengen visas.

Photographs

Two recent passport-sized photographs meeting Schengen specifications: white background, neutral facial expression, eyes open, mouth closed, no glasses, ears visible, taken within the last six months. Dimensions must be 35mm x 45mm. The photographs should not be digitally enhanced or retouched. If your photographs were taken more than six months ago, get new ones — old photos are a common reason for rejection at the counter.

Financial Documents

Your original bank statement for the last six months, stamped and signed by your bank. A bank certificate confirming your account status and balance. Salary slips for the last three months if employed. If self-employed, your business registration documents and tax returns. Fixed deposit certificates if applicable. Remember: the bank balance should demonstrate sufficient funds for your trip — typically a minimum of PKR 200,000 to 300,000 for a two-week Italy trip.

Travel and Accommodation Documents

A confirmed round-trip flight reservation (not a ticket purchase — a reservation holds your booking without full payment). Hotel reservation covering your entire stay in Italy. If staying with family or friends, an invitation letter from your host in Italy plus their proof of accommodation. Travel insurance policy with minimum EUR 30,000 coverage valid across all Schengen states for your entire trip duration. The insurance must explicitly state Schengen coverage.

Employment and Purpose Documents

An employment letter from your employer stating your position, salary, approved leave dates, and confirmation that your position will be held upon return. If self-employed, a letter from your business accountant or a copy of your NTN certificate. A leave approval letter on company letterhead. A detailed travel itinerary describing your planned activities in Italy — where you will visit, on which dates, and why. Cover letter explaining the purpose of your trip, your ties to Pakistan, and your intention to return.

Family-Specific Documents

If travelling with family, you need additional documents for each family member. Marriage certificate (original plus photocopy) for spouse. Birth certificates for children. If one parent is not travelling, a notarised No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the absent parent. School enrolment letters for children if applicable. Each family member requires their own separate appointment and complete document set.

Items Allowed and Not Allowed

BLS centres have security screening at the entrance. All bags are checked, and prohibited items must be left in designated storage areas outside the secure zone. Travelling light is strongly recommended — bring only your documents, phone, wallet, and keys.

Arriving at the Centre

When you arrive at the BLS centre, you will see a queue forming outside the entrance. Security staff verify your appointment confirmation before allowing entry. Show your printed appointment letter or the digital version on your phone. You must have the QR code visible — staff will scan it to confirm your booking.

After security clearance, you enter the main hall. If you have opted for Premium Lounge, a staff member will greet you and guide you to the separate lounge area. Standard applicants proceed to the general waiting area and take a numbered ticket from the kiosk.

The waiting area has seating, water dispensers, and basic refreshments. Digital display boards show your queue number and which counter to approach. Listen for announcements — your number will be called both visually and audibly. Do not leave the waiting area for extended periods, as missing your number can push you to the end of the queue.

Check-In Process

When your number is called, proceed to the assigned counter. The BLS officer will scan your appointment QR code and verify your identity against your passport. They will then conduct a thorough review of your documents, checking each item against the BLS checklist.

This is the critical moment. The officer will flag any missing documents, incorrect formatting, or discrepancies. If your documents are incomplete, you may be asked to leave and return with the missing items — effectively forfeiting your appointment slot. This is why preparation is so important. Every document must be present, correctly formatted, and in the right order.

If your documents pass the check-in review, the officer will collect your application file and issue you a receipt. You then proceed to the biometrics station.

Biometrics Collection

The biometrics process captures two things: your fingerprints and a digital photograph. You will be asked to place your fingers on a scanner — all ten fingers, one at a time. The scanner captures your fingerprints digitally; there is no ink or mess involved.

Before placing your fingers, ensure they are clean and dry. Remove any bandages, plasters, or coverings. If you have cuts or abrasions on your fingertips, inform the officer — they may need to scan alternative fingers or reschedule. Avoid applying lotion or cream to your hands on the day of your appointment.

For the digital photograph, sit upright in the chair, look directly at the camera, and maintain a neutral expression. Remove head coverings unless worn for religious reasons — in which case, ensure your face remains fully visible from forehead to chin. Remove glasses entirely for the photograph.

The entire biometrics process takes approximately 5 to 10 minutes. If any fingerprint does not scan clearly, the officer will ask you to retry. Some individuals — particularly those who work with their hands or have dry skin — may need multiple attempts. Be patient and follow the officer's instructions precisely.

Document Submission

After biometrics, you return to a counter for final document submission and fee payment. The officer will confirm your total charges — BLS service fee, Schengen visa fee, and any optional services (SMS, courier, Premium Lounge if applicable). Pay the total amount and collect your receipt.

The officer will provide you with a tracking reference number. Keep this number safe — it is your key to monitoring your application status online. If you purchased SMS services, you will also receive a text confirmation with your reference number.

If you opted for courier delivery, confirm your delivery address at this stage. Double-check the address, contact number, and postal code. Incorrect delivery details are the most common reason for passport delivery failures.

After Your Appointment

Once your documents are submitted and fees paid, your application enters the processing queue. The standard processing time for Italian Schengen visas from Pakistan is 15 calendar days, though it can extend to 30 days during peak periods. You can track your application status by logging into your BLS account and entering your tracking reference number. Status updates include: "Application Received," "Under Process at Embassy," "Decision Made," and "Ready for Collection" (or "Dispatched via Courier").

If your visa is approved, you will receive an SMS notification and can collect your passport from the BLS centre or receive it via courier. If refused, the refusal letter will be included with your passport, explaining the specific reasons for denial. You have the right to appeal a refusal within 15 days.

Emergency Protocol

If you encounter an emergency on the day of your appointment — illness, family emergency, or transport failure — contact BLS immediately by phone. Inform them of your situation and request rescheduling. BLS may offer a courtesy reschedule for genuine emergencies, but this is at their discretion and not guaranteed.

If you arrive at the centre and discover a critical document is missing, ask the officer if you can leave and return the same day with the missing item. Some centres accommodate this if the document can be obtained quickly and you return before the centre closes. However, this is not a formal policy — it depends on the officer and the centre's workload.

In the rare event of a system outage at the BLS centre, staff will manually record your details and process your application as soon as systems are restored. You will be asked to wait or return the following day. BLS will honour your original appointment time in such cases.
